Acrylic on wooden board
30 x 49 inches (76 x 124 cm)

In Untitled (Assemblage Study), Studio 198 constructs a layered visual language that navigates between mark-making, symbolism, and raw expression, drawing conceptual energy from the legacy of Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Executed in acrylic on a wooden support, the work embraces the immediacy of assemblage — where surface becomes a site of accumulation rather than resolution. Fragments of text, diagrammatic forms, and gestural symbols coexist within a charged turquoise field, intersected by assertive black passages that both conceal and reveal.

The composition resists linear reading. Scientific notations, skeletal motifs, and primitive iconography appear as coded elements — part language, part instinct. The repeated marks and interruptions suggest a process of construction and erasure, where meaning is continuously negotiated rather than fixed.

The exposed wooden ground introduces a material honesty, grounding the work in physicality while contrasting with the intensity of the painted surface. This tension between raw support and expressive intervention becomes central to the piece's presence.

At 30 x 49 inches (76 x 124 cm), the scale allows the viewer to engage both with the immediacy of individual marks and the broader rhythm of the composition. The work carries an urban, intellectual energy — one that feels at once spontaneous and deliberate.

This is a one-off original.
