In Untitled (Spatial Study), Studio 198 engages with the radical spatial language pioneered by Lucio Fontana, translating it into a disciplined and contemporary painterly form.
A luminous field of saturated orange unfolds across the canvas, subtly shifting in tone and intensity. This chromatic atmosphere is interrupted by a series of precise vertical incisions — controlled ruptures that move beyond surface, introducing depth as a physical and conceptual dimension. The gesture is minimal, yet decisive.
Rather than depicting space, the work creates it. The slashes act as thresholds, inviting the viewer to consider what lies beyond the pictorial plane. The tension between the immaculate surface and its interruption becomes the central dialogue — control versus release, stillness versus action.
